Blessing of Fathers and Grandfathers
on Father's Day

Father, we give you thanks for the many gifts you have given us;
the gift of life, the gift of those who love us.

We thank you today for the gift of our fathers and grandfathers.

We give thanks for our fathers and Grandfathers who have died
and for the unique way they have revealed for us your love.
We ask that you Bless them and keep them in your care
until the time comes for us to join them in your Kingdom.

We ask your Blessing upon the fathers and grandfathers
who are unable to be with us here today.

May they know how much we love and care for them.

We pray for fathers who have given their children up for adoption,
loving their children so much that they have shared the gift of their child
with those who could better care for them and their needs,
and give them a secure home.

We ask your blessing upon pray for adoptive fathers,
that they may always know their special role of being a true father,
a revelation of God's love for their children.

We ask your blessing upon fathers who have lost children
through stillbirth, crib death, accident and tragedy, that they
may have your continuing strength and courage.

We ask your blessing too, upon those who would very much
like to be fathers but who are having trouble having a child.

We ask your Blessing upon the fathers and grandfathers
standing before us here +.

Give them the strength to live the
faithful and loving lives you call them to live.

Protect and guide them. Keep them in your care.

We ask this Blessing in the name of Jesus, our Lord. AMEN.

Dad

When I was a boy of 14,
my father was so ignorant
I could hardly stand to have
the old man around.

But when I got to be 21,
I was astonished at how much
the old man had learned
in seven years.

What Makes A Dad?
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need.

Then God combined these qualities.
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... "DAD!"

Walk a little plainer Daddy!

Walk a little plainer Daddy
said a little boy so frail.
I'm following in your footsteps
and I don't want to fail.

Sometimes your steps are very plain.
Sometimes they are hard to see.
So walk a little plainer daddy,
for you are leading me.

I know that once you walked this way
many years ago.
And what you did along the way
I'd really like to know.

For sometimes when I'm tempted
I don't know what to do.
So walk a little plainer daddy
for I must follow you.

Someday when I'm grown up daddy,
you are like I want to be.
When I have a little boy
who will want to follow me.

And I would like to lead him right
and help him to be true.
So walk a little plainer daddy,
for we must follow you.
